| The start of the start- Spoiler:
I was awakened by a rumbling, as I opened my eyes, I realized I fell asleep in the back of the moving truck. Looking around, I realized I was also prone to violently shaking around as the truck moved. I was lifted off of the floor of the truck and raised a small distance into the air before crashing back down, awakening me fully. I sit up, completely alert from the bump the truck just went over. If the driver wasn't careful, myself and my belongings could be damaged on the trip to my new home, Littleroot Town. I yawned and covered my mouth with my gloved hand before stretching out. It seemed I woke up in good time, the truck was beginning to slow down, presumably very close to our destination. I got up and brushed my black jeans down before pulling on my black jacket to straighten it out. Running my fingers through my white hair, I waited for the truck to slow to a stop, before opening the back doors and climbing out.
I guess I should introduce myself shouldn't I? The name's Danny (Or in the online world, known as DannyL7773). I'm 21 years old, still live with my mother. We're just moving to Littleroot town now. Where we came from originally. Mmm. Can't say that's important. Why we're moving? That's not important either. Anyway. My mother already came here ahead of me, I came with my stuff, not that I own much anyway. Little did I know, I'd finally be starting on that adventure I'd always longed for in life.
Littleroot Town I stepped out into the bright daylight, raising a hand above my head to block out the sun. Other than the caw of birds and the engine of the truck, the town was quiet. Then again, looking around, considering the size of the town, being quiet was to be expected. It seemed nice. Turning to look at the house we pulled up outside, I realized this was our new house. Running my fingers through my hair again, I pushed the front door open then walked in. I was immediately hit with a blast of cool air. My mum was sat in a chair, she turned to look at the door as I walked in. "Oh hi, go check out your room, it's upstairs, end of the corridor", she said.
I just nodded, then grabbing the banister, marched upstairs and over into my room. Kind of spacious, empty too thanks to my stuff being in the truck I moved in in. Sighing, I bolt back downstairs and out of the door, figuring I should at least introduce myself to the neighbours. I see a few buildings, most of note being the house closest to ours and the big building a little further down, I can't see the entrance from here so I can't tell exactly what it is. I figure the nearest house would be the best place to start, I go and knock on the front door, getting an answer from a fairly elderly lady. "Ohh, you must be our new neighbours, nice to meet you, we have a daughter who would like to meet you, she should be upstairs, just go right up", she smiles warmly. She holds the door open.
I feel a little uncomfortable getting invited into their house already but I go in anyway. I head up the stairs and duck into the only open room, completely empty of people, but it has been nicely decorated. I duck back out and head towards the front door, saying she's not there, just then the front door opens and a girl just a bit shorter than me runs in and rebounds off me, falling onto her backside.
"O-owww", she complains, rubbing her backside. She looks up at my out-stretched hand and then takes it, allowing me to pull her back to her feet. "Sorry", I muttered. She smiled and then started circling me. The next thing I know, she's stopped in front of me and she opened her mouth to talk. What came out of her mouth had to be THE most annoying voice I could imagine. "OHHIYOUMUSTBEOURNEWNEXTDOORNEIGHBOUR", she enthusiastically said. She talked fast, very fast, thankfully, she slowed down and didn't speak as loud for what she said next. "I hope we can be friends and maybe you could help me complete my dream. I dream of becoming friends with pokemon from all over the world!", she continued. Oh great. Become friends with pokemon from all over? What is she? A nutjob. She takes my hand again and shakes it vigorously. "It's very nice to meet you, but my Dad, Professor Birch, requires me to go see him, maybe I'll see you around!", she smiles, blushing, then takes off running again. First time I've met her and I can't say I've got the best impression. Her energeticness could get a little annoying. Wait. She didn't even mention her name either. Rolling my eyes, I too leave the house.
Screaming catches my attention, I flick my eyes past the house, to a path between the trees, a little girl is screaming there. I walk over and ask her what is going on. "There's someone in the bushes and they sound like they're in trouble!", she flails about as she says it. I listen quietly, it's true, I can hear a man's faint yells for help. "I can't, I can't go help because the tall grass is full of pokemon and I don't have any of my own to protect me!", she quickly says, her eyes growing large, tears forming in them. She whimpers as I put my hand on her head and smile at her, reassuringly before walking past, into the path between the trees. "Be careful mister!", she shouts as I walk off. The man's yelling gets closer until I round a corner and see him, in a white lab coat, being attacked by a pokemon, it was gray, with black and looked much like a dog, must be a Poochyena. It managed to corner him and started biting, taking big bites at his legs and arms, he shouted for me to get a pokeball out of his bag to use to fight off the pokemon. I looked down, near my feet was his brown bag, I unzipped a pocket and 3 pokeballs fell out. I bent down and picked one up before moving closer to him and the Poochyena. I'd never had my own pokemon before, never battled, as such, I had no idea what to do next.
Throwing the pokeball, all I could think of shouting was "GO!". This drew the Poochyena's attention, it spun around, running to launch an attack at me. My pokeball hit the floor, opening with a bright light, releasing the pokemon within before shrinking and returning to my hand, I pocketed the now small pokeball as I readied both hands. The light died down as the Poochyena reached me, leaping for my throat. Bringing my hands up, I managed to keep it's jaws open as it knocked me to the floor, as I fell, I could see the pokemon I released, I smiled as I realized I knew what it was, a pokemon I had seen brand new trainers use before. All I could remember was one technique it knew when you first get one. "SQUIRTLE, USE TACKLE!", I yelled. The Squirtle snapped to attention before launching itself into a head-first attack on the Poochyena. It got knocked flying from above me as Squirtle collided with it. Staggering to my feet, I saw it doing the same. Squirtle stood protectively in front of me. The Poochyena launched it's own attack at Squirtle. "SQUIRTLE, JUMP!", I yelled. The Squirtle nodded and immediately jumped over the Poochyena, which came running at me. I quickly dashed to the side, avoiding it's snarling fangs. "Again, Squirtle, TACKLE!", I shouted. With a look of determination, Squirtle launched forwards, ramming into the Poochyena, sending it rolling. When it got up again, it turned tail and ran off. I picked up the remaining pokeballs from the man's bag before putting them back inside and zipping it up again. I got the pokeball out that I used and pointed it at Squirtle.
"Squirtle, return", I whispered, as I'd seen done on TV so many times. A red beam of light shot out, hitting Squirtle, merging with it before heading back into the ball. The ball once again shrunk, this time I unzipped the man's bag and stuffed the last pokeball in it before re-zipping it and helping him up. The man brushed himself off, only then did I realize he must be the local Professor. He bowed to me and took back his bag. "Sorry to cause you trouble," he said. I just shook my head. He started to look me up and down. "Hrmm," he muttered, "not seen you around before, you're the new resident aren't you?". I nodded and opened my mouth to speak but was immediately cut off by him starting to talk again. "Well, that's no good, come see me in my lab," with those words spoken, he dashed off past me back into Littleroot. Well. Looks like either I'm just imagining it or everyone here so far are a little crazy. I reached up and scratched the back of my head apprehensively. I guess there was nothing I could do about it, I hadn't actually introduced myself properly and with living here from now on, it's probably a good idea for me to keep on good terms with the other residents. I turned and ran back into the town, heading for the biggest building, presuming if anything, that would be his lab. As I skidded to a stop in front of it, I smiled, realizing I was right. I knocked on the door before opening it and entering.
A cold blast of air hit me right in the face, the place must be full of air conditioners. Even so, it felt really nice. Looking around, I noticed there weren't actually that many scientists, so I spotted the Professor easily. He looked up, smiled and waved me over as he got up from his chair behind his desk. He held out his hand and I took it, shaking it, before letting my hand drop down by my side. "Thanks for earlier. I realize I didn't introduce myself properly. I'm the local Professor, Professor Birch," he said. I nodded. "My name's Danny," I mumbled. To my surprise, he laughed. "Well it's nice to meet you Danny. Welcome to my lab. Welcome to Littleroot while I'm at it too," he smiled warmly as he said these words. I scratched the back of my head nervously again as I muttered, "Thanks" His expression turned darker. "The reason I asked you to come here is that I believe you don't have a pokemon do you?" he asked. I shook my head. He started smiling again. "Well, you fought excellently earlier alongside my Squirtle. Even though you haven't got a pokemon, I can tell straight away, the blood of a trainer flows through your veins. Squirtle can feel it too. That's why he decided he wants to go with you. Will you accept his offer of companionship?" he questioned. I grinned. "Of course, how could I say no?" I replied. He reached into his bag and pulled out a pokeball before handing it to me. I instantly released the Squirtle, who turned around to face me. "Looks like we're a team, Shin," I announced. The Squirtle looked happy. "Squirtle Squir!" he shouted out. Looks like he is going to enjoy his new name and travelling with me. I pocketed the pokeball and patted my shoulder, showing Shin to climb up. He did, very quickly. He rested, half leaning over my shoulder. "Thanks, Professor," I thanked him. Birch smiled. "Don't thank me, it was his decision," he replied. I raised my hand and waved. "I'm off," I said as I turned to walk off. Which is when I spotted it. A little red thing on a nearby desk. Instantly, I knew what it was. I'd see one before on the tele, when interviewers were interviewing a Trainer. They called it, hmm, what was it. A Pokedex? I reached out and picked it up. "He-HEY!" Birch shouted from behind. I just lifted it up and looked over my shoulder back at him. "I'm taking one. Next time I return, expect there to be a ton of entries for you," I announced. I could hear the sound of him sitting back down. "Interesting..... then I'll leave it to you," he murmured. As I turned to stroll out of the lab's door, I pocketed the pokedex and smiled. This was the beginning. The beginning of my own adventure.

| Journal- Spoiler:
> Battled way up through Route 101 with Shin >Visited Oldale Town, got harassed by a store clerk > Battled way up through 103, met girl next door Meeting- Spoiler:
I tapped the girl on the shoulder and she jumped. It seems I frightened her a little. She spun around to look at me and then smiled. "OHITSYOU!" she hastily says. Still talking fast I see. She looked at my shoulder, straight at Shin. I jerked my thumb up towards Shin, pointing at him. "You're interested in him? His name's Shin," I told her. "Squirtle Squir," Shin announced happily. I then moved my hand so my thumb was pointing at me. "And my name's Danny", I said. She smiled at me again. "If you want to know my name, you'll have to battle it out of me", she drawled. With that said, she sent out her pokemon, a Treecko. "Well Shin, let's do this!" I shouted, making the girl flinch as Shin launched off my shoulder, ready for battle. >Battle ensues, Shin beat down the Treecko with ease. The girl looks relatively scared at Shin's current power. "You..... you only just got him..... how can he be stronger than my Treecko already?", she asks. "We work well together, that's all. Right Shin?", I questioned as I turned my head to glance at Shin, who had just jumped up to perch on my shoulder again. He just nodded his agreement, making me laugh. "Well, a deal is a deal. My name is May," she held her hand out as she spoke. I took it and shook it. "Eh, nice to meet you May," I replied, "Anyway, looks like I can't progress this way, so I'll turn back". I turned to start walking back but was stopped by May's hand grabbing me by the shoulder and spinning me back around. She held out her other hand towards me. "I um... I want you to have these," she murmured as she started to go red. She opened her hand and dropped something into mine. As I looked, I realized, she'd given me some pokeballs. I grinned. "Thanks May" With that said, I turned to set off walking again, waving over my shoulder at her.
Journal 2- Spoiler:
>Returned to Oldale Town >Set off along Route 102. >Managed to weaken and catch a Lax Lotad. Named it Jem. >Stuck around Route 102 to train Jem a bit. >Slogged through the rest of Route 102, fighting off trainers to get to Petalburg City >Went on Route 104. Managed to catch a Lonely Surskit, I named her Kate. Lul. My puns are bad. Pond sKATEr. >Trained Kate on Route 104. Had to use my only Pecha Berry to cure her poisoning when I was ambushed by a youngster. >Finally went into Petalburg Woods, fought another Trainer. I managed to win fairly easily. >Came across the first Pokemon of Petalburg Woods, a Timid Shroomish, now named Mageek. (Yay Mageek Mushrooms?) >Returned to Route 104 to train Mageek.
Change- Spoiler:
Mageek looked to be exhausted now, so I figured I'd better give him a rest, a Slakoth slumping into view lazily. Shin should be able to take this out with ease, even though he's a little injured too. With a single tackle, I could tell that Shin had damaged the Slakoth quite a bit, another tackle would be enough to send it fleeing. I shouted out the order to Shin and he nodded, launching into a flying tackle. He was stopped short when the Slakoth brought it's claws up, slashing Shin out of the air, who fell back. He rolled backwards, stopping on his feet again. Shin was panting now, I could tell that did more damage than it would normally, leaving Shin in a critical condition. I reached down for Shin's pokeball, to return him and send out Jem, but he looked over his shoulder at me. The look in his eyes, the determination stopped me. I smirked. So it was all or nothing. I nodded at him, shouting for him to Tackle. He launched forwards again, colliding with the Slakoth, sending it flying. Shin collapsed to the floor and I rushed over to see if he was alright. Already, I could tell something was up, his features were slowly changing. A brilliant bright white burst forth out of his tiny body. I closed my eyes, dulling the light in vision. When the light died down and I opened my eyes again, Shin had completely changed. "Congratulations, your Squirtle has evolved into a Wartortle!", my pokedex chirped. So Shin had become stronger. He opened his eyes, with the first words that came out of his mouth, War! He looked to be extremely happy. I hugged him, this was a great development. Now to test his new strengths......
Journal 3- Spoiler:
>Tested Shin's new strength against a Taillow, he took it out in a single Water Gun. Continued training Mageek. >After feeling satisfied with Mageek's progress, returned to Petalburg Woods, fought my way through to the other side. >Taught Bullet Seed to Jem. Made it safely to Rustboro after fighting a few more trainers.
